What has happened

Canada's largest financial market infrastructure group, TMX Group Limited, has completed its acquisition of Cboe Australia. The exchange will be rebranded as TMX Australia Exchange.

Regulatory approval

ASIC granted regulatory approval under section 852DG of the Corporations Act 2001. The formal application, assessment, and approval all took place in July 2026.

Scale of the exchange

Cboe Australia currently handles around 20% of Australia's equity market turnover, which amounts to approximately $2 billion in trades every day.

Ongoing ASIC oversight

ASIC will continue to oversee the transition. This includes reviewing any changes to market operating rules that are needed to provide clarity to issuers and market participants during the changeover to TMX Australia Exchange.
