What the determination does

The Social Security (Administration) (Job Search Efforts) Determination 2026 is a new legal rule that came into force on 22 October 2026. It replaces the previous 2018 version of the determination.

The determination sets out how Centrelink works out whether a person receiving income support has made adequate job search efforts.

Scope of the rule

This is a federal welfare administration rule. It governs how job seekers are assessed, not how employers operate. It does not create any new obligations for small business owners.

The source text does not include the detailed criteria of what counts as adequate job search effort, only that this determination now replaces the 2018 one.
